# REFERRALS.md templates

Examples. Every name and number is made up, and rates are placeholders, not market rates or a recommendation. Each party sets its own terms.

## SaaS

| Template | What | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| [saas-rev-share](https://referrals.md/templates/saas-rev-share.md) | SaaS revenue share | You sell a subscription and want to pay referrers a share of what each customer pays, for a set number of months. |
| [signup-bounty](https://referrals.md/templates/signup-bounty.md) | Bounty per activated signup | You want to pay one flat amount when a referred signup becomes a real user, and nothing for signups that go nowhere. |
| [two-sided-credits](https://referrals.md/templates/two-sided-credits.md) | Two-sided credits | You want the referrer and the new customer each to get account credits on a first purchase, with no cash. |
| [seat-expansion](https://referrals.md/templates/seat-expansion.md) | Pay on seat expansion | You sell by the seat and want to pay for net new seats, so a customer who drops seats and adds them back is not paid twice. |
| [volume-tier](https://referrals.md/templates/volume-tier.md) | Volume tiers | You want the rate to rise when a referrer's revenue for the year crosses a line, and a refund to bring it back down. |

## API and usage

| Template | What | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| [api-usage-share](https://referrals.md/templates/api-usage-share.md) | Share of API usage | You bill by usage from a meter, and want to pay a share of each billed period, with a way to correct a meter report. |
| [compute-referral](https://referrals.md/templates/compute-referral.md) | Compute referral with a cap | You sell compute with thin margins, and want to pay a share of margin up to a fixed amount per customer. |
| [paid-call-share](https://referrals.md/templates/paid-call-share.md) | Paid API call share | Agents pay per call, a builder code rides on the payment, and you want to pay per thousand calls in a stablecoin. |
| [sla-linked-share](https://referrals.md/templates/sla-linked-share.md) | Share that depends on an SLA | A partner's share should fall while it misses a service commitment, for that partner only. |

## AI-native

| Template | What | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| [agent-path-split](https://referrals.md/templates/agent-path-split.md) | Harness, skill and MCP server split | Several parts of an agent's path helped: a harness, a skill and an MCP server. You want one pot, split by role. |
| [llm-gateway-share](https://referrals.md/templates/llm-gateway-share.md) | Model gateway share | A gateway routes model calls to you, revenue per report is tiny, and you need amounts that do not round to zero. |
| [skill-author-royalty](https://referrals.md/templates/skill-author-royalty.md) | Skill author royalty | A skill's author earns when an install leads to paying customers, at a rate that steps down and then ends. |
| [mcp-server-referral](https://referrals.md/templates/mcp-server-referral.md) | MCP server referral | An MCP server connects users to your product, and you pay once on the connection and once on the first purchase, on signed tokens only. |
| [harness-default-placement](https://referrals.md/templates/harness-default-placement.md) | Paid default placement in a harness | A harness shows your product as a default, labeled as paid, and you pay a share of the revenue that follows. |
| [agent-marketplace-listing](https://referrals.md/templates/agent-marketplace-listing.md) | Agent marketplace listing | A marketplace of agents or tools lists you, and you pay it when the listing leads to an install and to revenue, ahead of any other touch. |
| [llm-citation-credit](https://referrals.md/templates/llm-citation-credit.md) | Citation and recommendation credit | An answer cites you and another agent recommends you, and you want to weight the two rather than give everything to the last one. |

## Enterprise and business development

| Template | What | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| [deal-registration](https://referrals.md/templates/deal-registration.md) | Enterprise deal registration | Partners register deals, you accept one per deal, and you pay sourced and influenced partners different rates. |
| [marketplace-co-sell](https://referrals.md/templates/marketplace-co-sell.md) | Co-sell through a marketplace | A deal closes on a cloud or software marketplace, the marketplace keeps its cut, and you pay a partner on what is left when it pays out. |
| [reseller-tracked](https://referrals.md/templates/reseller-tracked.md) | Reseller margin, tracked | A reseller keeps its own margin, so you pay nothing per order, but those orders still count toward its rate on direct revenue. |
| [oem-minimum](https://referrals.md/templates/oem-minimum.md) | OEM royalty with a minimum | A partner builds your product into theirs, you pay a royalty, and the contract sets a minimum per quarter. |
| [finders-fee](https://referrals.md/templates/finders-fee.md) | Finder's fee with a tail | Someone makes one introduction, you accept it in writing, and you pay once if a deal closes within a set number of months. |
| [retainer-success](https://referrals.md/templates/retainer-success.md) | Retainer plus success fee | A consultant gets a monthly retainer for a fixed term and a success fee on any deal it brings. |
| [si-referral-fee](https://referrals.md/templates/si-referral-fee.md) | Systems integrator referral fee | An integrator and a smaller firm bring a deal together, and the contract fixes each one's share of a fee on first-year value. |

## On-chain and stablecoin

| Template | What | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| [stablecoin-volume-share](https://referrals.md/templates/stablecoin-volume-share.md) | Stablecoin volume, paid on the fee | A referrer sends you stablecoin payment volume, and you share the fee you keep rather than a percent of the volume. |
| [onchain-builder-code](https://referrals.md/templates/onchain-builder-code.md) | Builder code on a swap | A front end puts a public builder code on swaps, and you share the fee, with reorgs reversed by rule. |
| [wallet-onramp-referral](https://referrals.md/templates/wallet-onramp-referral.md) | Wallet onramp referral | A wallet sends people to your onramp, and you share the fee you keep on each purchase. |

## People and creators

| Template | What | When to use it |
|---|---|---|

| [creator-affiliate](https://referrals.md/templates/creator-affiliate.md) | Creator links | Creators post links or codes, you pay per sale, and a link earns only when the creator says it was disclosed. |
| [professional-intro](https://referrals.md/templates/professional-intro.md) | A person's intro | A person introduces someone to you, you accept the intro, and you pay one flat amount if a contract follows. |

## Buyer's side

| Template | What | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| [policy-disclosed](https://referrals.md/templates/policy-disclosed.md) | Policy: paid recommendations, disclosed | Your agents may make paid recommendations if they say so first. They ask before joining a program or minting a token. |
| [policy-no-paid](https://referrals.md/templates/policy-no-paid.md) | Policy: no paid recommendations | Your agents take no referral pay at all, and you want that written down. |

Each file holds its terms, a made-up example and a worked result from the real engine. Copy one, set your own terms, then run check_referrals. A clean check means only that the check found nothing.
